AutoLISP is a member of the extended Lisp dialect family of programming languages that use parenthesized expressions to represent program control flow. AutoLISP was originally developed by John E. Douglas at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He was an inventor on US patent number 4,552,989 for Extended Lisp (1979), which became a U.S. Patent in 1986 and was purchased by Autodesk in 2007. The language is a modification of Lisp: although AutoLISP was designed as an extension of Common Lisp, it has certain features that are similar to Lisp dialects such as Scheme and JavaScript.
