REVISION HELP

There are fantastic resources available on Petroc’s Library + website available to learners via myPetroc
For A Level learners, you could watch this video - it is longish and he talks fast but the evidence based tips for studying are priceless
Post It Notes – can stick on things around the house, bedroom, doors, fridge, etc
Buddy up – have a friend come round and take it in turns to ask questions related to the subject (a great way to test existing knowledge)
Read from notes - then turn away from the notes and either say out loud or write down and see how accurate you were afterwards, repeat overtime until happy
Dedicate specific time – it could be an hour first thing in the morning, before bed, you will have a preference and will know of when in the day you learn best
Flash Cards – sometimes having A4 sized revision notes can be overwhelming – instead try writing bullet points on flash cards – it can be a nicer, friendlier approach to tackling revision and not come across as so daunting. They are also easy to carry around so you can have them conveniently in your pocket when venturing out for a picnic with friends!
Subject specific days – rather then jumbling it all up on the same day why not have specific days dedicated to certain subjects, English Lit on a Tues, etc
Mind Maps – useful for linking things together and memorising key elements
Be the teacher – teaching what you have learnt to a friend or family member can be a really useful way of seeing how much information you have retained and what areas you need to focus more on
Sleep, mental health, exercise, diet, reward – these can all play a vital role in how well you’re able to revise, a heavy night on the tiles is not going to make for the best revision day the day after! A poor diet can make you feel more tired as will a disrupted sleep routine. Exercise is proven to be invaluable to your mental health, it can make you feel so much better afterwards. Lastly treat yourself afterwards, have an incentive e.g. ‘I am going to do an hour revision session and then pop on an episode of One Day’
Breaks – don’t over do it! Take regular breaks, even if just to grab a drink, stretch, a short walk outside. It will help recharge the batteries & feeling more awake & focused to go again
Struggling with revision? – seek help, don’t struggle in silence, ask teachers for strategies, speak to friends/family for inspiration/ideas, Youtube has an abundance of useful techniques.
