Although Photoshop is organized into menus, these menus actually contain a collection of toolbars. Toolbars are like shelves that you can place inside Photoshop. On each toolbar you find a collection of tools that are organized to give you easy access to them.
Although this chapter covers only the basic Photoshop tools, on pages 6–9 you will learn about the more important commands for working with layers.
You can easily learn the basics of tools and the menus simply by using the chapter on toolbars, menus, and commands.
Digital cameras
Photoshop Elements (or Photoshop) is very useful for many of the images you take with your own digital camera. You can use Photoshop to correct problems, reduce noise, adjust brightness, contrast, and color, add effects, crop the image, and more.
In the following chapters, you will learn all the basic Photoshop features. Before you start, however, you might want to take a look at Chapter 5 to discover the basics of digital photography and to get an idea of the advantages and disadvantages of using Photoshop for images you have taken with your digital camera.
