Macon-Bibb Commission 10/3/23

The Macon-Bibb County Commission divvied up more than $9.3 million of the remaining American Rescue Plan Act funds during Tuesday's meeting. Commissioners also shifted $1.25 million in SPLOST funds for sidewalks on Pinehill Drive and Hollingsworth Road and repairs on Mead Road. They also authorized the mayor to apply for the 2024 Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant from the Georgia Department of Transportation. The county granted an alcohol license for Shurling Food Mart and issued the final denial for The Cotton Ranch restaurant upon the recommendation of state regulators due to nonpayment of taxes and other concerns. Commissioners accepted grants for public safety equipment and renewed contracts for counseling services for the courts specializing in domestic violence cases. The Commission also set term limits for the Friends of Rosa Parks Square Board and brought that advisory committee under the direction of the mayor instead of the mayor pro tem as it was originally organized. Commissioners agreed to honor Union Baptist Church pastors with a dedication of a portion of Kitchens Street and declared October as Pedestrian Safety Awareness Month. Here are the highlights of the Oct. 3 meeting captured on social media.
