A former Mexican president has told the United States that President Barack Obama’s health care reform will bring further poverty and misery to the country.
Lumping the US President under an all-encompassing new name, Enrique Peña Nieto, the country’s second oldest president, told the Washington Times on Saturday that the Obama health care reform was going to bring the country to the verge of bankruptcy.
Recalling the new law, Mr. Peña Nieto said he knew that the fact that he had to go to great lengths to explain to the world how badly the reform would impact his countrymen, did not make it any more palatable.
“It’s called Obamacare for a reason,” he said.
Mr. Peña Nieto said that the US President was wasting too much money on health care, a view also echoed by the country’s former foreign minister, Jorge Castaneda, who also spoke to the Washington Times.
“If a private insurance company pays $1 for a co-payment, there’s a lot of money to be made,” Mr. Castaneda said.
Despite objections, Mr. Peña Nieto said he felt that it was his duty as a former president to explain that to the world.
Mr. Castaneda recalled how Mr. Obama had promised to bring health care reform to the country.
