By 2010, Roblox had around 200 games available for download, a number that grew to over 2500 games by 2012. Roblox had over 500 games in 2016, about half of which were created in GameMaker. Another 580 games were released in October 2017.
The Roblox platform allows users to program games with GameMaker, a Lua-based programming language. Users can code and upload their creations to the server's “Roblox Studio” which allows them to view their creations, host tournaments, set their own difficulty levels, and recruit other players. Roblox Studio is available on a server or computer using an optional game client. There are three basic types of games available on Roblox:
Roblox Live, an online version of Roblox Studio. It has the advantage of working on any device, and since it is playable, it can be downloaded to the mobile device even if it is offline. Games built with live are able to have player data saved. This means that when the player returns to the game, the player will return to the same game he or she was playing previously. WDC organizer John Cole said that organizers are exploring the possibility of hosting the October 2013 World Dirt Car Association meeting at Royal Gorge Raceway in Cañon City, Colorado. Additional information will be sent to members and the membership forum, he said.
This event will serve as a “dry run” for the October 2013 meeting, he said. Other team members are looking forward to the change in location, he added.
Cole, a former member of the Mid-West Dirt Cars Association, has been involved with this event since the late 1990s. The team is working to increase awareness that the 2012 edition of the event is taking place July 26-28 at Royal Gorge Raceway. The $75 entry fee includes pit passes, four days of action, drinks and dinner, WDC hospitality at the track and team hospitality on the Friday. The driver’s and crew chief’s purses will be $1,500, $700 for the top two finishers and $500 for third and fourth places.
Funds raised in this way support the WDC’s youth initiatives, as well as honors the memory of those who were important in the history of dirt track racing.
