A leak has given us a detailed look at a possible redesign for Android 12 just ahead of Google IO, the annual developer conference where the new software is expected to be officially revealed. The leak comes from Front Page Tech, and the information shown in the video consists of both images and what appears to be an official-looking promo clip.If accurate, Android 12s design will undergo a significant redesign compared to what were used to seeing on Google Pixel phones at the moment. Remember, if you dont own a Pixel phone, the Android 12 you see on your phone may be at least partially obscured by the manufacturer interface on your phone, such as Samsungs One UI or OnePlus OxygenOS. What does the leak show? Most familiar elements will get a new design, including the clock on the lock screen, incoming notification alerts, the weather widget, and controls like brightness and alarm snooze. There will also be a lot of dynamic size adjustments for icons, windows, and other onscreen elements. Theres a distinctly flowery motif throughout, too.The video shows a phone (possibly the Pixel 6) with a very summery floral image as the wallpaper, petal-shaped icons, lots of bold colors, and a spinning camera icon thats less gear-focused and more flowerlike, which is then repeated for a contacts icon. It seems Google is eager to cheer us all up with Android 12.Notifications also look set to change, with a pill-shaped alert appearing at the top left of the screen, where a counter also provides information on how many alerts you have waiting, which is another design element repeated throughout the video. The notification pill shows on the lock screen, where the time has been enlarged, placed at the center of the screen, and orientated vertically. What else? Look out for lots of rounded corners on icons, new animations, more white space, and even a new design for Googles Gboard keyboard.Is this what Android 12 will look like? Google IO is traditionally where we get our first look at the next version of Android, before its slowly further revealed until the final launch toward the end of the year. The keynote presentation is the must-watch event, and it takes place tomorrow, Tuesday, May 18, so we dont have long to go before we find out all the official information about Android 12. Editors Recommendations (Image credit: Google) Google is holding a hardware launch event on September 30, and alongside the Pixel 5 were expecting to see a Chromecast-style device – and now a newly leaked image gives us a better idea of what to expect.There are no major revelations in the pictures posted by WinFuture (opens in new tab), but they confirm a lot of the previous leaks weve seen, and show that the upcoming dongle is set to be a relatively compact device (and available in white).You can see the separate remote that weve glimpsed before, as well as the pill-like shape that showed up in earlier renders. Itll connect to your TV via HDMI, and is going to be powered through a USB-C port.What we seem to be looking at, based on everything weve heard so far, is a Chromecast with Android TV on board. Based on leaked information, itll launch for less than $50 in the US (thats about £39 or AU$69, but dont expect a straight currency conversion).New leak offers more specs for Googles rumored Android TV dongleAndroid Auto and its Coolwalk UI. (Image source: uRegionRat91)It looks like Google is preparing to release another Android Auto refreshed, codenamed Coolwalk. While not officially released yet, several images of the redesign have emerged online. Google is also testing a Cast app for Android Auto that allows you to mirror your smartphone on your cars display.Android Software Last year, XDA Developers discovered a new Android Auto UI within the apps APK. Codenamed Coolwalk, the refresh seemed focused on maximising the amount of time people had the navigation screen in front of them when driving. While Google has not announced a new version of Android Auto yet, new screenshots have appeared online, courtesy of uRegionRat91 on Reddit and AndroidWorld.Unfortunately for Google, Coolwalk also resembles Apple CarPlays current layout. However, Google continues to place the taskbar on the bottom of Android Autos UI rather than its left or right-hand sides. As a result, Android Auto apps cannot be used in full-screen mode, particularly unhelpful in cars with large display bezels, such as the VW shown by uRegionRat91.Additionally, Google is testing a Cast app, currently called Cast (Beta). As the photo below shows, the Cast app allows you to mirror your smartphones display on your cars entertainment system. It is unclear why Google would bring this functionality to Android Auto, considering that Google markets the software as made to help you focus on the road.
