I assume that you're trying to create a PDF from a LaTeX output. Since the viewer shows a PDF-like text, the default font on the TeX output in PDF looks the same. PDF support of the viewer is provided by GhostScript. 
It's not surprising that PDF viewers can't show different fonts which are used in the document, since the fonts are often sent to the viewer as vector graphics.
(The PDF viewers I used, Acrobat Reader and Foxit Reader, do support alternative fonts for other font types, but these are embedded in the PDF file itself, and not included in the viewer. Thus they don't work with the links posted in the question.)
Thus the fonts in your document are the same as in the viewer. If you want to prevent the viewer from using the default fonts of TeX, use the option “Use Postscript fonts for the output” in the Options –> Type selection of the “Edit menu” of the viewer. This will also influence the embedded fonts in the PDF file.
If you don't want to use the option, you can insert a stylesheet with different fonts, e.g. a.css or a.sty file.
Edit: If you use the option, you'll see that the fonts used in the viewer are no longer the same as in the document. Thus you can't embed a PDF generated from a PDF document, since this will look strange.
