If you're familiar with cracking applications, you've most likely come across the term 'wordlist', but what is a wordlist and why do we need one for password cracking? Words are the backbone of a dictionary attack on a password, and they're the main difference between a dictionary attack and a brute-force attack. Choosing the right words is critical for successful cracking. How do we get the right words?
At jCracker Serial Key we've done extensive research into hash values for passwords of popular sites, and have built a list of words that are used to crack those passwords. If you encounter a password on the web that you cannot find on our database, you can run through our list of words and see if any of them fit.

# Crack passwords and other hashes
A brute-force attack can be summed up as trying every possible combination of characters in a string to form a password. A dictionary attack is similar to a brute-force attack, but it uses a known list of words to try. By performing a dictionary attack, we can find out the most common password and the site owners likely weak points.
We’ve tested all of these attacks against over 50,000 password hashes of known sites.
# Use built-in encryption
The strength of your cracking method, in combination with the encryption method used by the site, will determine how long it will take to brute-force the password. For instance, breaking a weak hashed password that is salted with a simple XOR encryption would take hours or days, depending on the length of the password. Breaking a strong hashed password with a strong encryption like AES256 (or better) would take milliseconds.
# Use a custom dictionary (wordlist)
We’ve used the dictionary attack method against over a thousand wordlists to find the most common passwords for hundreds of high-security websites. This tool lets you try your own list of words against the hash values you encounter.
# Read/write multiple wordlists
jCracker's wordlist utility lets you read, edit, and save wordlists from file, or import from a Google Docs spreadsheet.
# Attempt to crack passwords automatically
