Emulator
What is a game emulator? An emulator is software that allows you to play games that otherwise won't work on your operating system. The first popular Sony Playstation emulator was a combination of a classic text adventure (Adventure Island, Lemmings, Monkey Island, Conker's Bad Fur Day) and the tried and true BASIC game programming language. You would type game instructions to the emulator and then it would try to emulate it. There were also games that were programmed in Pascal that would have to be translated into another language (one of my favorites was Bionic Commando) that were also emulated. You will never need an emulator for old games! These apps only need to read and understand the data on your CD and be fast enough to emulate game instructions on your computer.
Fruit ninja is back! The average gamer should have known this since the release of it in 2005 but it came from the website that let's you join online games (Gamasutra). It is an unofficial sequel to the very popular and highly profitable game from Bandai Namco as well as the DS version, that had just passed a million sales. Fruit Ninja came back in 2008 on iOS and in 2009, to the DS. There were a few clones like Fruit Zen and lots of freeware games like Gooigi and a lot more. But none of those compared to the original.
This is a free download to add to your DS game card. There is also an ad in-game (which does not work if your DS browser is set to Auto-scroll) to remove the ads for a fee (10-20 Appster points = US$0.15-0.30). It is a free download on the DS.
No instructions, this game is simple. You choose a fruit that will be your weapon for the game and tap it. Tap the screen again and the fruit will be sliced into two equal parts. Touch the screen again and that piece will be split into three equal pieces and so on and so on. Don't waste the powerups.
The game is only in Japanese but there is a free browser version that Google can translate that will run on the DS (it will not run in the DS browser).
These games come out every couple of months. If you don't have the game, you should get it to play. The touchscreen might be a little tricky at first but once you get used to it, it will be fun.
