Empowering People and Communities Taskforce Co-Production in Mental Health Commissioning Tweet Chat - 25 April 2018

The Taskforce is a partnership initiative led by NHS England involving three interrelated ambitions: (i) People – Population engagement, participation and co-production in supporting the future delivery of services and policy; (ii) Patients – The role of insight and learning from the experience of patients, families and carers in improving the quality and outcomes of services; (iii) Voluntary Sector – Our partnerships with voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector organisations to both add value to our work and deliver a wider range of services that are holistic in nature and focus on wellbeing There will be six meetings during 2017 and 2018, each looking at a different health and care issue.  Once again, we would like to express our gratitude to everyone who took the time out of their evenings to share their views and experiences. Key themes from this chat include:  -Experts by experience being seen as equal to staff with co-production, including appropriate remuneration - Diversity in co-production, not just the ‘usual suspects’ - Seeing mental health as part of the physical bigger picture where appropriate - There are some great examples of involving experts by experience in co-production in mental health commissioning from the very beginning, and in a way that is relevant to individuals - Making conversations about mental health routine.
