The DMX512 control consists of a Program memory and a Clock generator. The Program memory contains the program to be activated. The Clock generator generates a clock signal to trigger activation of the program. The Program Memory consists of three parts, the first part is the Data Memory which consists of Audio tracks which are downloaded from a computer hard drive and loaded to the Program Memory. The second part is the Control Memory, which has the Control Data that is read from a hard drive and loaded to the Control Memory. The first step was to select a suitable hardware device that can be used to acquire the data. For this purpose, I tried to purchase a traditional USB sound card with built-in microphone. I turned out to be unsuccessful in buying such product. The sound card with built-in microphone could be either too expensive or not efficient enough to implement the music visualization program.
On the other hand, MIDI video out could not be implemented in Linux.
My next choice was USB video capture card: AnyCam. This card has 4-pin DP and USB, so it is very suitable for controlling lighting.
The next step is setting up the software to find and extract the data from MIDI files. For this purpose, I used LilyPond Composing Software from Korg. It is easy-to-use program, and allows to create, read, edit, and print musical scores. The program was not the only option for data acquisition.
Lilypond API needs to be installed, so I used the Mac version. Once installed, it could be found at /opt/lilypond.
When the program is installed, it must be authorized to record MIDI. To achieve this, a config file is required. To make the configuration, the -a option must be used with Lilypond for authorization.
The standard output file for Lilypond is.ly. It must be the same output format as the data that is acquired. To find the appropriate.ly output file, I could use the -o option to specify the output format. The list of available formats could be found on the Lilypond API website. In my case, the file is called test.ly, because it was a sample of my file. The file name must match the output file that is specified with the -o option.
At this point, the data could be acquired using the -a option and the -o option. For this purpose, the command should be:
lilypond -a -o test.ly 
The above command puts the text of the song in the txt file test.ly and saves the.ly file in the directory where it is executed. After executing the program, the output file that was found with the -o option should be created. If the file test.ly does not exist, there must be a problem with the -a option. In this case, the following command should be used:
