How AutoCAD Works
AutoCAD uses a graphical user interface (GUI) to create, view, and modify documents, either alone or with other AutoCAD programs. The AutoCAD software is divided into several different tools, called “roles”, which are used to create documents. There are four primary roles in AutoCAD: Block, Text, Layers, and Drawing.
When you start AutoCAD, the first tool you are presented with is the Block Editor, shown above. In the Block Editor, you can create 2D and 3D objects.
