Food cultural appropriation: What is and isn't can be tricky 
A great part of the delight of food lies in sharing, and the way it brings people together. It’s a great way to explore a culture and try new ingredients, flavors and techniques. Unfortunately, racism and cultural appropriation don't leave out even something as wholesome and celebratory as food. 
When it comes to food, just enjoying or liking food from another culture is not appropriation. Appropriation of food can be when members of a dominant culture start to fetishize or commercialize food that is not a part of their culture and limit its access to the public just to their own knowledge of it. It gets problematic when a dominant culture reduces the other culture to just its cuisine, without fully understanding the history and stories behind it. It is particularly questionable when chefs and business owners of dominant cultures produce that food for their own profit because quite often members of the non-dominant cultures don’t have the access or resources to do the same.
