Happy Wednesday everyone! Today I want to take a moment to talk about one of the largest employers of students on campus and the reason I’m currently on campus- Residence Life! @wmreslife Residence Life is a really important part of student life and involvement throughout your college career. The employees from Res Life that students most frequently interact with, and for some turn into, are Resident Advisors (RAs). For the past two years I’ve been an RA in various halls across campus and this year I’m super excited to be a Head Resident! Student staff in Residence Life has a really fun and unique opportunity to facilitate communities in different dorms plus, as an RA you get to do many initiatives which a lot of times means free food!! Right now, all of us in Res Life are hard at work preparing to welcome you all back to campus in these different circumstances. Things will be different but we all care deeply for the students and want to make their experiences in their halls as great as possible so I’m excited so watch it all turn out! Overall, Res Life has been a really important part of my college experience where I’ve learned how to manage work and school, how to work with others, and how to make the best out of hard situations! We can’t wait to welcome you all back to campus and make the best out of this year and find new ways to have fun and connect! 💚💛 In the pictures above you can see my with my staff my first year as an RA, one of my first boards I made, and me with my freshman hall which inspired me to be an RA! #williamandmary ~ @r_busbee

One of the great things about #williamandmary is that it not only offers incredible opportunities on campus for students, it also offers programs off campus. I have had many friends engage in the study abroad programs at W&M but I decided to take a slightly different track do the Study in DC program. @wm_washington program is a super neat opportunity where you get to live in the heart of DC, intern during the day, and take classes at night. I had the honor to intern with the US Department of State while in DC and it was one of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had. I had the opportunity to see the impeachment hearings, see Secretary of State Pompeo, and engage with State Employees doing all kinds of incredible work around the world. In our class, we went to various embassies and companies throughout the DC area to learn about International Commercial Diplomacy. Spending time working and living in DC convinced me that DC is where my future lies and I want to work for the government full-time. I absolutely loved my time in DC and it’s shaped my future career as I continue working with State to make a difference around the world. I learned so much and had such a great time with the friends I made and reconnected with there. There are so many cool opportunities like this at W&M so I highly recommend finding one that fits your interest and living somewhere entirely new for a semester! I think it teaches you what matters in life, makes you love W&M and it’s beautiful campus even more, and get a new view of the world. ~ @r_busbee
