If a wall were erected on the border with Mexico, these migrants could be deterred from attempting to cross into the United States. Yet even if they were, those who made it into the United States could continue to find jobs in the United States that don’t require a work visa.
It is also true that many people from Mexico, as well as Central American countries, are motivated to migrate to the United States to find jobs. But they are also motivated to leave the United States if they become too expensive to support.
There is also research that suggests that most unauthorized immigrants in the United States are not driven by their desire to obtain citizenship.
