History
The University of Dagenham was established in 1994 with a single department based on the Essex Regional College of Further Education in Barking. It quickly expanded and became part of the Sixth Form Colleges Group. 
In February 2006 it became the first college to be awarded university status and was renamed as Barking and Dagenham Campus of the University of East London (now Barking and Dagenham University).
