This application is for Windows XP (unsupported) and can be used to capture video data from a video capture device such as a digital camera or video capture card. It supports all popular digital cameras and camcorders which use a compatible data format. You will need to obtain a software driver for the video capture device before using this application.
After loading and launching this application you will see a New capture tab on the right side of the application. This tab is where you select the video capture device you want to use.
You can select any type of device, it could be a digital camera, camcorder, video capture card or other video capture device. The type of device and your operating system will determine if the appropriate driver is available. Some devices may not have a driver available for the particular operating system and it may not be supported by VidCapLB.
When you select a device to use, you will be prompted to enter a specific address of a video device or pin number if it is a camera. When selecting a video capture device the application will automatically launch the correct driver to control that device.
Once you have selected a device you can preview the device's video data which is displayed in an enlarged box at the bottom of the video preview window.
If the video capture device supports it, you can configure the application to capture still image data. If not, you can configure the application to capture only audio.
After selecting a video capture device and configuring the application, you can save your settings.
When saving your settings the application can save your selection of a device, if the capture still images mode is selected and if the device is configured to capture audio, the audio data from the device. The audio data will be saved as a stereo WAVE file.
You can choose to save all captured video data from the device as a single AVI file.
You can choose to only save still images from the device which will be saved as separate BMP files.
You can choose to save audio only from the device as a mono WAVE file.

In the case of capturing video for audio you can use the YUV420p color space (see this) and specify the need to capture video with audio using the YUV420p flag when getting preview data.
When you finish the capture process you can access a file handle where you can read the audio data captured with the device and specify if the video was captured with audio using the flag AV_CODEC_FLAG_AUDIO_PRESERVED.
