Directions:
Tell your family what you will be doing so they won't worry and come looking for you and also so they won't disturb you. It's great if others in your family, or even the whole family does it together! Just sit as far apart as you can and remain quiet to not disturb each other during the activity.     
Find a safe, comfortable spot nearby where you can see nature.* It could be in your backyard, or even in your house looking out a window. If you have access to an open space or park, that's good, too. Make sure you are not sitting on an anthill, or in the hot sun, and if you want, you could bring something like a small tarp to sit on - you want to be comfortable!     
It's even better if your spot is close enough that you can visit it regularly, because then you will get to know it, and notice changes, which are an important part of nature.     
Once you have permission and a spot, all you need to do is sit quietly and observe the world around you. Ideally, you should sit for 15-20 minutes, without talking to anyone, just relaxing and noticing and wondering about what you can observe with your senses. You can start with as little as 5 minutes, but each time you come back, try to sit quietly a little longer, and you'll see animals start to come out and other things you don't see in less time.     
You can take a journal, notebook, or just some paper stapled together, and something to write or draw with if you want. Make sure you are writing about or drawing what you notice around you.     
It's best if you leave your phone at home, if you can. You want to focus on nature, not something on your phone. Take pictures with your mind's eye instead of your phone - you can even frame them with your fingers, blink your eyes and whisper "click" to capture what you see in your memory. You can try sketching it to see it even better.     
Once you have found and sat in your spot at least once or twice, you can add nature journaling, sketching, recording observations and changes, or other activities to your time sitting quietly.     
*Nature is everywhere! Ants on the sidewalk are nature. Birds you can hear but not see are nature. The sky, wind, clouds, and sun are nature. Nature is anything in our environment that isn't man-made (although people are part of nature, too, and we depend on nature for our survival - we want to observe some non-human parts of nature.)
