In Roblox, users can create games and play them through online consoles that are free to download and utilize on any device. The games can be structured in a variety of different game types, such as survival/fighting, action-adventure, mini-games, role-playing, and casual games.
Roblox began as a web-based game in 2004 and was released in 2006 for desktop, mobile, and console devices. By 2009, it had become one of the top-five most-played social games on Facebook, with over 1 million unique users. The following year, Roblox was one of the few Facebook games to generate a steady revenue stream. At its peak, Roblox had 15 million users worldwide and generated about $55 million annually in revenue.[2]
Erik Cassel, David Baszucki and others launched Roblox in 2004, creating a web-based platform that allowed players to program their own games with a scripting language, Lua.[3] Before Roblox, a language dubbed Befunge was used to create text-based games, while software developers used proprietary coding languages to create 3D games. The creators of Roblox considered the creation of games as a "fun side project", as a programming language, Lua, was relatively easy to learn and manipulate.[4]
Each game created on Roblox operates through a virtual sandbox. Content includes characters, weapons, and backgrounds that are populated by users. All non-destructible objects can be picked up and moved around by players. Some games, like Survival Island, support user-made weapons. Characters and items can be saved on the user's computer, which can be used on all Roblox-hosted computers and consoles.[5]
In the first game, a Roblox character would sit down at a desk and call another user to play. However, Roblox later introduced a peer-to-peer model of game play, which cut out the middleman and enabled users to play with one another directly from their computer. According to Business Insider, this gave rise to the game's popular in-game chat feature. The peer-to-peer model has also led to a disproportionately high number of women using the platform.[6]

Robux is the currency in Roblox. If you don’t have them, you’ll need to purchase them from the in-game store or use code boxes.
There are a total of 19 code boxes with the original “Rare Box” valued at 1,000 robux. There are also five Limited Time Items with that original total of 50k Robux which is really nice.
