AutoCAD 2D 
AutoCAD is first of a new generation of CAD systems called 3D CAD systems. The original AutoCAD 2D was released in 1993, and was the first commercially released 3D modeling system.
AutoCAD 2D became the base for AutoCAD 3D in 1994, which introduced a new feature set and new engine architecture. AutoCAD 3D was released with MS-DOS and Windows 3.0.  AutoCAD 2D continued to be sold until 1999, when a new release was renamed AutoCAD 2000.  The Windows version became the basis for AutoCAD LT.
AutoCAD 2D was the first CAD system to support 64-bit computing, which became the basis for all subsequent releases.

AutoCAD 3D was released in 1994, along with the Windows version. Both were available as 32-bit and 64-bit versions.  AutoCAD 3D had several new features and an entirely new architecture. Some of these new features included dynamic feature snapping, a new user interface with pull-down menus, toolbars, and a task bar, to name a few. The new system architecture allowed the software to be designed and developed much faster.
AutoCAD 3D continued to be developed in tandem with AutoCAD 2D, though with limited support for the 2D version until the release of AutoCAD 2.5 in 1995.
