Roblox is an online game platform and game creation system developed by Roblox Corporation that allows users to program games and play games created by other users. Created by David Baszucki and Erik Cassel in 2004 and released in 2006, the platform hosts user-created games of multiple genres coded in the programming language Lua. For most of Roblox's history, it was relatively small, both as a platform and a company. Roblox began to grow rapidly in the second half of the 2010s, and this growth has been accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Roblox is free to play, with in-game purchases available through a virtual currency called Robux. As of August 2020, Roblox had over 164 million monthly active users, including more than half of all American children under 16. Although Roblox has received generally positive reviews from critics, it has faced criticism for its moderation, microtransactions, and exploitative practices directed toward children.
Roblox was founded in 2004 by David Baszucki and Erik Cassel, both of whom had worked with John DeFanti at NeuLion (now PBS Digital Studios) and Disney's then-newly established startup, Hero Factory, on the Hero Factory website. Cassel and Baszucki had first collaborated at NeuLion, where Cassel handled user experience and brand management and Baszucki's team developed the platform.
In 2005, the studio, renamed 7th Level, relaunched as Roblox Studio in 2006. Alongside John DeFanti, Roblox Studios’ first two employees were Kevin Haley and Steve Fawkner, and Roblox was released as a free-to-play social web portal.
The following year, the company made Roblox Studio’s initial foray into the realm of programming on the Lua programming language. John DeFanti left Roblox Studios to become director of product development at Disney, but was replaced by Eric Ross and Ryan Abernathy, both NeuLion team members. Shortly after, Disney decided that it no longer wanted to be a part of Roblox Studios, and the team lost one of their most important investors. With more than $4 million in funding that the company owed to Disney, and money nearing it's end, the studio was forced to shut down.

Forget about the zombies and car chase/shoot'em-up genre of games, this game is all about high-stakes puzzle solving and memorable characters.
Roblox is basically one massive castle from many different lands with a free costume generator for your avatar. Players can take on the role of a 10-year old programmer, ninja, pirate, police officer, high-schooler, or a popstar. Like all things, though, there’s a trade-off.
Roblox chrases are two-part skins in which you control one part (for example the ninja part) and a computer controls the other (for example a police officer). Every time you make a chrase, a new one is generated and your chrases rank up accordingly (for example by going on more missions).
This means you’ll need to keep buying and making new chrases to continually improve your chrases rankings. I’d say this game is about the same price as the other Sims chrases (about £6 a chrases, not including an in-game gold card.)
You will need to do a bit of balancing between spending your energy on missions and just buying chrases. I found myself neglecting missions as I built up my chrases and making chrases that basically replaced one big mission that I’d done for thousands of coins.
Just beware that very long missions can get a bit buggy (resulting in hilarity, at times.) I think you could easily spend about £100 on just chrases but in terms of hours playing, it’s a relatively small investment. Still, it’s a great way to gain free Robux – which is Roblox’s in-game currency.
You can download the game for free from either PC or Mac here and get started playing right away. You don’t need to be a member of Roblox to play, so you’ll get started fairly quickly.
If you want to open your ability to unlimited free robux, I’d suggest spending £60 and downloading the Roblox Studio. The software allows you to create your own games for Roblox. The “free” app you download gives you 500 Robux every month, and you can earn Robux by doing anything on the Roblox website.
