Seeing people of color as only the slaves, maids, sidekick, comedic relief, or villain is not a strong cultural representation. When watching mainstream movies until 2018 (Black Panther & Crazy Rich Asians), I do not recall when there was a movie that had a majority "minority" cast that did not deal with the struggle that people of color go through. Movies like The Hate U Give, Selma, and Freedom Writers are great movies based on the real everyday struggle that people of color go through. On the other hand, seeing people who look like me the only storyline is fighting racism, police brutality, poverty, or drugs is quite disheartening and leads me to believe that is all I can do.
Other movies and T.V show tokenism. Which is having the one minority girl or boy amongst a cast of white people. In all likelihood, the character will not have a storyline of their own, do not get dramatic scenes like their castmates, will be stereotyped, or have white saviors to overshadow them. Some shows/movie that have done this is, Clueless (Dione), Friends (Charlie, the only black person ever on the show), Secret Life of an American Teenager (Adrian), Hidden Figures, The Greenbook, The Help, The BlindSide, and To Kill a Mocking Bird. More movies where the People of Color are people of importance, saving lives, are superheroes, scientists, and astronauts are the types of representation I would like to see.
