The Valentine’s Book

Not a box of chocolates or a flower bouquet. 
 
 I give you a book. 
 It is symbol of my love printed permanently in ink. 
 It is our lock of love, secured forever on a bridge. 
 
 Here. 
 It is full of tragedy 
 like life itself. 
 It is full of mystery 
 an image of your cold, blue eyes. 
 
 As you get deeper through the pages, 
 I fall deeper into the abyss of love. 
 
 Not a fluffy toy teddy-bear, with ‘I love you’ stitched onto his chest, 
 Or a shiny, splendid necklace, hung on your throat for ceaseless rest. 
 
 I give you a book. 
 A tale of love and misery, 
 always on your mind, 
 constant and loyal, 
 As is my affection. 
 
 Take it. 
 The chapters and the epilogue, 
 Will break your heart, 
 And bring it closer to mine. 
 
 Burn it. 
 The flames won’t be enough 
 to tear my love apart. 
 Yet enough to show me, 
 That my fantasy, 
 Will never be.
