Let's Explore Jordan!

Hello everyone, my name is Meeza Darwish and I am 16 years old. I am in grade 10C at the Ahliyyah School for Girls. My personal project’s goal was to educate two groups of children between the ages of 5 and 6 about Jordan and its main cities and touristic places. I chose to create a couple of cards that have pictures of each city in Jordan and on the back of these cards there will be simple information for this age group. I chose to cooperate with a mosaic artist to learn how mosaic is done and apply that with the children by creating a small piece of mosaic as Jordan’s flag. I always loved working with children and I had a passion in art, to be more specific creating physical art. That’s why I wanted to achieve my goal by linking it to physical art and creating art pieces which will be interactive and interesting for this age of group that they will remember for a long time. I want to develop their thinking and communication skills, while improving their knowledge about Jordan. This project was chosen for this specific age because they are the new generation who is exposed to technology and they are attached to it a lot. I wanted to prove that there are many other aspects that are more effective than technology, especially tourism and the history of our country. Working as a volunteer, meeting a lot of different children made me notice the gap that the new generation is having towards their culture, tradition and language. The global context related to my personal project is “Orientation in Space and Time”, this context explores personal histories, relationship between individuals and civilizations, this was exactly what I wanted to introduce the kids to their history in an interesting way linking it with their relationships. My goal is highly challenging in many ways, because kids require high communication skills to achieve the required goal. Kids get bored easily, this is a challenge for me to keep them focused, entertained and interested. Moreover, I need to research more about the most interesting places in Jordan. I will challenge myself to create new ways to present my project to this age group. My product will require a lot of time and effort to represent the cities in Jordan. My goal is highly challenging because it is difficult to create a product involved with children especially during COVID-19. I have to take precautions. I have to keep track of social distance which is also a challenge because I do not have the opportunity to gather kids around and explain to them directly. Multiple of my previous ideas were cancelled due to this issue, it is very challenging to have any product produced during this time due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
