Previously, the wake word for Alexa was “Alexa,” but now Echo and Fire tablet users can specify the wake word that they would like Alexa to respond to, which can be set to a specific phrase, like “lights on.”
While the wake word still needs to be said, when Echo or Fire tablet owners are in a hands-free situation, Alexa will respond to the wake word from now on, according to a new report.
Amazon will introduce this new feature to its user base and also update the “Music Store” experience to work a bit better, the company confirmed.
From now on, customers will be able to immediately purchase products in the “Music Store” and also automatically receive song recommendations based on what the customer listens to.
Amazon Echo
The Echo line of home speakers will now play music stored on Amazon’s cloud-based music store and play music recommendations based on what the customer is listening to.
The update will allow the Echo and Fire tablet to recognize whether the user is playing a specific song or another song based on what the user is currently listening to. Once the customer changes their song, the Echo or Fire tablet will then begin to offer other songs that are similar.
The update will also allow the Echo and Fire tablet to be more useful to Echo and Fire tablet owners.
