Based on one of my friends' posts on Facebook, a bigot posted his opinion on his Facebook wall that all people from a particular country are "niggers."  Does the First Amendment to the US Constitution provide public figures in media in the US with protection against this type of speech?

There is a specific provision of the United States Constitution that forbids this: the First Amendment to the United States Constitution.
Here it is, nearly in its entirety:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
In 2006, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that this was so fundamental to American life that it should be upheld under the Fourteenth Amendment as well, rather than just being treated as one of the enumerated rights.
This means that the First Amendment trumps local laws, and state law, and indeed state and federal laws.

The Story
Corona Blossom:
A story full of themes like family and loss, the game opens with Corona awakening from a deadly flower accident and discovering she can't die as long as she has her lifelink, a rare flower that grants its owner a special power to revive those around him or her. Playable characters include Corona, Bo and a male "Corona's Father" (voiced by Tomokazu Sugita).

Corona's family and the Flower Power Revolution
One day Corona is awakened from her deep sleep, only to discover that she was transformed into a flower! These flowers can't exist long-term, so she's thrust into her first mission:
Become a lifelink!
Corona isn't alone in this quest. When she survives a battle, her power opens up the Bloom World—where other flowers, including her lifelink, exist. Other flowers are themselves lifelinked, so the player can see them continuously from within, even though they may be fighting on the outskirts.
Corona also inherits the Bloom Power she gains from her lifelink, and can use it to unleash her power. She can gather even more Bloom Power by finding her lifelink nearby, in which case she can enhance her Bloom power with it, making her stronger in the process.
Corona also learns that she is destined to become a flower herself, and will turn into a lifelinked flower again once she's dead.
The Coronas she meets on her mission
In addition to her lifelink, Corona acquires a "Corona's Mother," a flower that can grant special powers, and her "Corona's Father," a flower that can be transformed into a lifelinked version of himself that can not only use Bloom Power, but also wield a single-handed sword and use it like a drill.
