In August 2019, Ryan McIlvaine, Roblox's former vice president of business development, sued the company in an attempt to recoup his stock options.[9] According to McIlvaine's suit, he was an early employee of Roblox, having joined in July 2005, but was compensated for only four years out of the six years he worked there. He believes this to be a case of fraud, having been systematically lied to by Chief Executive Officer David Baszucki, who misled him into thinking he could eventually become the CEO of Roblox and recover his stock options, which he believed was promised to him after he had five years of service. McIlvaine was fired by Roblox in early 2018, and he was not allowed to participate in the 2018 stock offering until his court action was resolved.
