So why do people get bullied anyways? Social media has been integrated into if not all then most of people’s daily lives. “63 percent of the teens said they never shut off their phone” (0:58). A lot of people especially young adults have easy access to the internet and social media. In this case it allows for them to potentially get bullied online. No one is safe from getting cyberbullied. Yes, they can just block that person, delete, or make their social media accounts private but it is hard to do if the bully is creating new accounts and trying to bully them in different ways. The cyberbully will come up with new ways to get to their victims even if they are blocked. With so many social media apps for anyone to use, that is part of the reason why cyberbullying can occur. Again, social media is a very helpful and effective tool in human’s arsenal but “As technology evolves, so do many of the problems faced by those who have access to it” (Patchin & Hinduja). Yes, advancement in social media, the internet, and technology is a plus but also comes with its cons. Everything has a pro and con to it and that includes social media as well. The harm it can do to others are emotional, potentially physical harm done to oneself, anxiety, depression, or low self-esteem. All these harms are not good or healthy for anyone.
