I called American Leak and booked an appointment for 11613 because our pool had been losing water. They receptionist said the service call would cost $350. They were supposed to arrive after lunch, but the technician called and said they were delayed on another job and asked if they could come later in the afternoon. Two techs arrived around 4pm and were at the house for about one and a half hours. The first tech was older and appeared more experienced. The second tech was younger and appeared to be in training. When they arrived the older tech started measuring water loss in the pool with a tool they call Leakvue. While he was hooking up the Leakvue, he told the younger tech to check the skimmer for leaks (the most common place they find leaks). After about 15 minutes, the older tech said the pool was definitely losing water according to the Leakvue. The younger tech then told him that he finished checking the skimmer and it didn?t have any leaks. The older tech seemed skeptical and asked him if he was sure and if he checked it thoroughly. The older tech then went over and re-checked the skimmer and almost immediately found a leak. He showed me the leak and said they would repair it for an additional $40. Wow?$350 doesn?t include small epoxy repairs. The older tech then went to the built in spa and began checking it with the Leakvue. After about 15 minutes, he said the water appeared to be dropping in the spa as well. While he was checking the spa, the younger tech was repairing the leak they found in he skimmer. The older tech drained the spa and removed a cover from the side suction. He said he didn?t see any leaks, but he applied some epoxy to be safe. I don?t know how he could determine a leak with the spa water drained, but maybe I missed something. He then refilled the spa and said the pool should be ok. He told me I had 30 days to call back if I noticed the pool leaking. They left at 5:30, so they were at the house for about an hour and a half. The problem is, he never explained how much water loss is normal, so I had no idea what to expect after the repair. I asked, but the tech talked about wind, humidity, water features, etc...It rained a couple of times over the next month, so it was hard to judge water loss. When it stopped raining, I went from adding water twice a week to adding water once a week. I wasn?t sure if this was normal or not. It was definitely better than before. After having the water checked a couple of times, I noticed the salt and stabilizer were still dropping. I called American Leak 57 days after they had come to the house. It was definitely past the 30 days, but with the rain, I had not had a chance to really gauge the water loss. All I wanted was someone to tell me if adding water once a week was normal. The receptionist who answered the phone had no patience. She just kept saying that the 30 days had passed and I would have to pay another $350 for a service call to check for leaks. I told her I wasn?t sure if I had a leak and asked if I could speak to a tech. It?s not like I was a freeloader. I just paid them $390 to come out. I didn?t want to pay another $350 to find out the pool wasn?t leaking. We went back and forth and she became more and more rude. Eventually, she said it was obvious I didn?t like her and she would have a tech call me. The owner, Chris, called me and was a lot nicer. I still couldn?t get an answer on normal water loss. Eventually, Chris offered to send a tech back for $225. I really didn?t want to give them any more of my money. I called the Pool Leak Doctor (Just changed his name to Pool Leak Guru) and what a difference. Extremely nice guy. The first thing he said was, I should never have to add water to my pool. Between the regular rain we have been getting and the upcoming summer humidity, he said the water should never get to a level that you have to add. Obviously, a big pool party with lots of splashing or a big drought would be exceptions, but adding water every week or two like a clock is a sign of a leak. He came out and immediately found a second leak in the skimmer and two leaks in the spa waterfalls. American Leak Detection missed 3 leaks. Oh?the Pool Leak Doctor?s fee was less and his fee included the repairs. Since he left, I haven?t had to add water in over a month. I don?t know if it was a tech in training mistake or end of the day rush, but, between their mistakes and the receptionist?s rudeness, I would never call them again.American Leak Detection came to the house to test for a leak and make repairs.American Leak Detection of Jacksonville prides itself on the quality of its work as well as its excellent customer service, so when we hear of a complaint, we take it very seriously. Our owner, Chris, spoke to the member and tried to rectify the situation, even offering a reduced rate for a return visit. This offer was refused and then a competitor discovered three new leaks that American Leak Detection missed. Our state of the art technology showed these additional leaks did not exist two months before when we were on the property. Our office fixed the only identifiable leaks in January, and we would have been happy to come back within the 30 day window to address further issues at no charge.
