My name is Leen Alsarirah and I am 16 years old. I study at Ahliyyah School and currently I am in grade 10 C. I have always been interested in handmade products especially if they are plastic-free, also, animals where I believe they are treated unequally in society. I created an Instagram account where it tackles these issues and displays them to the world. I researched people and companies who started businesses from recycled materials from all around the world where their products are environment-friendly. The global context I chose was ‘Personal and Cultural Expression’. I chose this global context because it relates directly to my project. People create and work according to their culture and where they came from. People can express their beliefs, values, traditions, feelings, and ideas throughout the products they create. People from developing countries create products from recycled materials due to their needs, jobs, culture, or daily habits. People can create unique ideas that save the environment based on their personal interests or cultural traditions. My product is an Instagram account called @craftin.it_ . The name refers to crafting or creating products that are environmentally-friendly or created from recycled materials. The account shows different products that have been created from different regions of the world. The account also raised awareness about animal abuse, different actions to protect the environment, and alternatives for products that are harmful to the environment and result in climate change. This project had an unexpected impact on myself. I became more concerned about the actions I take. I assured myself not to pollute, and trying to reduce the use of plastic. Furthermore, I changed my way of treating animals whereas I deal with them with compassion. My way of thinking changed a lot towards the animals. I began making sure to buy beauty products and cosmetics that are cruelty-free or haven’t been tested on animals. I found a new interest in handmade and recycled objects and products. During the process of creating the product, I have faced challenges and obstacles, however, I was able to overcome them. Challenges that came up were different. For example, there was an issue that occurred that Instagram restricted me from posting for over 4 days, where I lost more than 10 followers. Another time, Instagram restricted me from adding the captions on the posts, where the post would be posted, however, the caption would be deleted. I was able to solve these problems by reporting to Instagram, and researching the reasons these occurred and how to prevent it. It was due to the excess posting and I had to leave time between a post and another. Furthermore, the account sometimes would not get much interactions which caused the account to lose followers and decrease its success. When this occurred, I talked about animal abuse and their importance towards the environment, which resulted in the account in gaining so many interactions since this triggers the audience the most. One key skill I developed the most throughout the process was demonstrating excellent self-management organizational skills by selecting and using technology effectively and productively. This is because my project is based on technology and digital media. Social media has a great impact since the information or posts that have been posted are widely reached and to everyone from different parts of the world. Social media networks appropriately allow people to build and develop relationships, giving and receiving meaningful feedback, and encouraging others to contribute. Social media networks gave me access to reach different people from different parts of the world. Social media is considered the language that is common between everyone worldwide.Everyone can have access to social media and get in touch with the account.
