Post-war history After World War II, the Tavistock Clinic benefited from the experience of Northfield Hospital and the arrival of talented specialists from Europe, many of whom were fleeing Nazi persecution.12 In 1948, it became a leading clinic in the newly established National Health Service. At the time, its education and training services were administered separately by the Tavistock Institute for Medical Psychology, which was also the umbrella Tavistock Institute for social action research and consideration of group relations and organizational dynamics and working with married couples. . The clinic was governed by a committee of experts following a democratic model and continued to develop its strong focus on multidisciplinary and community-oriented work. Children and adolescents New developments in the field of mental health of children and adolescents were particularly fruitful in the immediate post-war period. In 1948, the establishment of a childrens ward supported the development of training in psychotherapy of children and adolescents. Dr. John Bowlby encouraged this new training and live observation of infants. He also developed the attachment theory.
