An unexpected blackout sent influencers into a tailspin Monday, worrying some about the longevity of their livelihood. For many, the outage provided a few hours of catch-up time, but for others, it signaled an alarm that a backup (employment) plan should be in place. The break only lasted six hours, which most influencers claimed wasn’t a big issue. Larger threats to the social network community, like last year’s possible removal of TikTok from U.S. markets, was a much greater concern. Influencers with planned content needed to reschedule many of their posts for later in the week. Other influencers took time to create content for other platforms such as Twitter and TikTok, to keep their followers engaged. Though many were concerned, a sigh of relief also echoed through the influencer world. “It was like a virtual snow day,” one influencer tweeted, “we all need a break.”
