Macon-Bibb Commission 4/16/24
The Bibb County Sheriff's Office can use $2 million from its commissary fund to purchase magnetic locks and repair plumbing in the jail. The Macon-Bibb County Commission approved Sheriff David Davis' expenditures during Tuesday's meetings. The Commission also authorized restructuring the 2018 SPLOST timeline as that collection nears its $280,000,000 cap that is expected to be met by summer of 2025. Commissioners approved allocating more than $7.8 million for a variety of SPLOST projects and over a million dollars for public safety radios and IT expenses. They also approved $70,000 for the Board of Elections to hire temporary workers and nearly $117,000 to purchase new dam cables for Lake Tobesofkee. All nine commissioners and Mayor Lester Miller sponsored a resolution to dedicate a portion of Plant Street in honor of Pastor Charles Jones, a former Macon-Bibb County Commissioners. The Commission also honored Georgia Crime Victims Compensation Award recipient Sylvia Rose Brown who inspired the Survivor Care Project after Brown's husband was shot to death Nov. 26. Macon-Bibb County also designated April 29 to May 4 as National Small Business Week. Here are highlights from the meetings.
