Likowsky Desir

Likowsky Desir is a highly motivated and competent medical student and researcher from New York. Medicine and science domains have already felt Desir's effects significantly. She is pursuing an MD/Ph.D. in neuroscience at Mount Sinai's Icahn School of Medicine. Desir, who was reared in New York City and was born there, has always had a passion for science and health. He was academically successful throughout high school and eventually earned a biology bachelor's degree with honors from Columbia University. While a student at Columbia, Desir was heavily active in research, working as a research assistant in various labs and writing several papers for academic journals. After receiving his undergraduate degree, Desir enrolled in the MD/Ph.D. program at Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine. Because of this dual degree program, he was able to pursue both his interests in research and medical training. Desir's research focuses on the molecular mechanisms behind neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. Many studies have focused on his work, including a ground-breaking inquiry into the role of microglia in the progression of Alzheimer's disease. In honor of Desir's work, several awards and accolades have been presented, including the prestigious National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship.
