On December 10, 2010, Roblox was acquired by the Prada Group, which also owns the Terraria game, for an undisclosed amount of money. On December 13, 2012, Prada sold a 49.9% stake in the company to the venture capital firm Advent International. On June 29, 2013, Roblox relocated from its office in Birmingham, England to Austin, Texas. Roblox officially changed its name from Emergent Entertainment to Roblox in December 2012. As of 2018, Roblox has no physical assets besides the office that it occupies.
On February 22, 2018, Roblox announced a $100 million investment in Roblox Studio, the company's first shift in funding towards development of its own games.
