Custom dropdown list, pick from database or predefined
I've been working with DropDownList and have not found any control that does what I want (which is a very hard thing to find out what i want). I have a list of items and want to display them in a dropdownlist with the option to choose one of them and if the list is large to just show a selected from list of a few chosen.
I've searched a lot but couldnt find any existing control which fulfills my needs. Any suggestions would be great.

Basically the article uses a DataTable as the backing data source, and populates a dropdown by looping through the table.

Have you looked at the DataPager control from the Ajax Control Toolkit?  It allows you to do exactly what you are asking for.
