Explore the American west in the early 1950s during the golden era of American train travel – with a real-world train, made real for Train Simulator with the California Zephyr! The California Zephyr made its debut in 1949 with breath-taking scenery, amazing craftsmanship, and a new passenger service between Chicago and the San Francisco Bay Area. But it wasn’t long before the train was winning “Best of Show” at the nation’s rail shows. 
At the same time, the United States was emerging from World War II and discovering a great deal of new western territory, fueling the hopes of a new American frontier. The California Zephyr ran non-stop along the Burlington Route between Chicago and New York City and then through the Rocky Mountains to the Pacific Coast via the Rio Grande Railway’s Feather River Canyon route. The train’s complement of luxury-style passenger cars included a streamlined baggage car, vista-dome car, lounge-buffet-dormitory car, a 10-roomette, 6-bedroom sleeper, a 48-seat diner, and a standard coach. 
And these cars were hand-built with fine stainless steel design and each came with the prefix “Silver” on the nameplate, matching the train’s famous moniker. Known as the “Silver Lady”, this was a train that was going to give passengers a unique, unique experience of life in the United States and the West. 
Now with the California Zephyr included as part of the hugely popular Train Simulator franchise, fans can relive this classic period in American rail history in Train Simulator. Your train travels across a landscape of a thousand hills, across deserts and through deep forests – and it’s a joy to drive. And when you’re not driving, you can take in some of the world’s greatest art, see the treasures of the American west, visit the superb cities of the Midwest, and then step off the train and pass the time by enjoying a range of intriguing hotels and eating-places throughout the American West. So when you’re finished all this, and still with the urge to drive, why not join the colourful folk of the streets and travel on foot, by horse and wagon, or even by bus to the local cities and towns of the West?

The Train Simulator addon, ‘Western Pacific FP7 California Zephyr Loco Add-On,’ is the first in a series of add-ons on the Windows 10 platform containing Steam Workshop compatible Train Sim content. Add-on content is available directly from the Steam Workshop within the game and requires no additional installations of the game.

* We recommend that you backup your current Train Simulator content prior to installing add-ons. Please be aware that some add-ons may alter the original game files.

The California Zephyr makes its triumphant return to Train Simulator with this new addon that features a locomotive not often seen in games. Enjoy a journey across America when the time comes to travel across the Golden State. The rail line extends 2,532 route miles from Chicago to San Francisco. The train left Chicago in 1949, and there have been countless trips throughout its long history, not forgetting a legendary journey across America in 1980. Back in the eighties, the California Zephyr also went through its summertime drought, reaching a peak of 8,538 passengers. However, this fully repainted locomotive has been redesigned and rebuilt as a steam locomotive to transport passengers across the country. The shiny carriages are luxury train carriages that include: streamline baggage car; vista-dome coach; vista-dome buffet-lounge-dormitory car; 10-roomette, 6-bedroom sleeper; 48-seat diner; standard coach (converted from 16-section sleeper); and a dome car with bedroom and lounge for exclusive use by first-class passengers. After a busy day of exploring the Sierra Nevada and the Rocky Mountains, passengers can sit back in their dome car and relax. A company called Budd Rail Diesel Carriage built the California Zephyr passenger equipment. There are eight car types of the streamliners that are included in Train Simulators FP7 California Zephyr release: a streamlined baggage car; vista-dome coach; vista-dome buffet-lounge-dormitory car; 10-roomette, 6-bedroom sleeper; 48-seat diner; standard coach (converted from 16-section sleeper); 5-compartment, 6-double bedroom sleeper; and the trains signature vista-dome bedroom-lounge-observation. All the California Zephyr cars are individually named with the prefix Silver and each lived up to that shimmering image. Western Pacific powered its leg of the California Zephyr with EMD F-units, and beginning in 1950, FP7s became the standard lead units for the California Zephyr on the WP. Train Simulators FP7 California Zephyr set includes Western Pacific FP7 and F7B units for use on the Feather River Canyon route, and also included are Rio Grande EMD F9A and F9B diesels which served as regular power for the streamliner on the D&RGW. The Silver Lady made its last transcontinental run in March 1970,
