Support for the following features and models was added in AutoCAD 2010:
 2010 adds support for Adobe Photoshop style layer styles and object linking to other drawing files, as well as being able to choose the type of background you have in your drawings by using a new background style panel.
 2010 supports creation of 3D drawings using the blocks (also known as "colored sketches") feature from the SolidWorks software package.
 2012 also adds support for 3D drawings in the.dwg format, meaning that imported.dwg files can be viewed as 3D objects and rendered as such. In addition, Autodesk gained a patent for the software in 2012.
History
AutoCAD was introduced on January 24, 1992, by AutoDesk. While there was no fee to download AutoCAD at the time, the company charged a nominal monthly fee for the service.
On April 9, 1996, AutoDesk introduced AutoCAD Civil 3D, a new product from the same software, which enabled the user to use a sketch as the base for a 3D model in the drawing.
On March 14, 2002, AutoDesk introduced AutoCAD Architect, a product focused on the architectural design market, aimed at meeting Autodesk's vision of a "dynamic world of design".
On July 24, 2005, AutoDesk released AutoCAD 2008, the first major version released since the Civil 3D product launch. In addition to incorporating some of the additional features in the AutoCAD Civil 3D product, the new version also incorporated a number of new features and enhancements. AutoCAD 2008 also introduced AutoCAD Architecture, an extension of AutoCAD 2008 with tools for architectural design.
AutoCAD 2010 was released on September 14, 2009, with a new user interface. The new interface was designed to work well on both a computer monitor and a projector.
Other than in its predecessors, the licensing changed to an annual fee, and included new features and benefits. A version for architectural work was released on December 10, 2008.
On October 8, 2010, AutoDesk released AutoCAD 2012, which included a number of new features including flexible dimension styles, intelligent placement and more. AutoCAD 2012 also included a number of minor interface enhancements.
In February 2012, AutoDesk released AutoCAD R14, which included many new features for better interoperability with other software.
