Reflective Response
While watching the film I realized how lucky we are to have quick access to health care services in America unlike a lot of South African villages. Yesterday would walk up to 2 hours just to be able to reach the only available clinic. The lines were always very long, and it would be impossible for the doctor to see everyone that was in line at the clinic. 
Being understaffed and underfunded at a clinic can be dangerous for the patients. In the movie hundreds of women with newborn babies, broken legs and extremely bad coughs were waiting in line to see one doctor. If you get to the clinic too late and the doctor does not have time to see you, you must wait another week to get another chance at seeing the doctor. This can be dangerous for people who live with critical health conditions such as seizures, AIDS, and diabetes. 
In America it is illegal to be refused health care services because of the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act. This means if you have a life-threatening condition but have no insurance you cannot be denied Health care. However, without insurance you are billed all fees that come with your health services. This can be very expensive and cause people with expensive treatments for illnesses to declare bankruptcy or collect debt. 
I personally believe that healthcare is a human right that everyone should be able to have access to. I think denying patients is extremely dangerous and sickening. So many people avoid going to the doctor because of issues like this and end up not getting treatment and medication they need. It is heart wrenching to me to think that so many people cannot afford life changing medications for themselves as well as people being denied healthcare access and treatment. While the world is helping Africa obtain proper treatments for AIDS/HIV I also think America and other high-income countries should work on providing Africa and other low-income countries with clinics, health care providers and medications.
