LDaemon will run on Windows 2000, XP and 2003 servers. It is supported
for all versions of MDaemon and is recommended when MDaemon
starts using the Windows communication foundation (WCF) to
communicate with other components in the MDaemon system.
LDaemon is powered by the ldapobj.dll library that is built into the
LDaemon service.
Installation:

To install:
To install LDaemon on a Windows 2000, XP or 2003 Server:
1) Start Cmd.exe and navigate to the installation folder.
2) Open the Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Service Pack 3 (SP3) install.msi file.
3) Click on Next and select Local Installation.
4) Close all programs except Windows NT File System.
5) Close Windows NT File System.
6) Open the instal-line.txt file and click Next to continue.
7) Open the Software Installation folder.
8) Copy the ldapobj.dll file.  Place it in the /opt/ldaemon/ldap folder.
9) Open a Command Prompt and navigate to the [CDB] folder on the operating system
where the ldapobj.dll file was saved.
10) Execute the following command:
C:> /install-line.txt -ldapobj.dll
11) Execute the following command:
C:> /install.exe
To install LDaemon on a Linux machine:
1) Extract the ldapobj.so file and place it in the /opt/ldaemon/ldap directory.
2) On Red Hat and Debian installations, configure sysconfdir to be in
the directory where the operating system RPM packages and binary
files are installed.
3) On Red Hat, Windows 2000 and other similar operating systems:
mv /etc/ldap/ldap.conf /etc/ldap/
mv /etc/init.d/ldap /etc/init.d/ldap
4) On Red Hat, Debian and other similar Linux distributions:
/etc/init.d/ldap restart

LDaemon is a self-contained LDAP directory server which supports 3 open
directory specifications:  Microsoft (Interix) LDAP, GSSAPI, and
Kerberos.  It is designed to operate as a Windows 2000 system service and run
an LDAP server and provides both a simple user management interface and
full LDAP directory functionality for MDaemon customers.
LDaemon can be used as an LDAP directory backend for the MDaemon
software.
An advantage of using LDaemon is that all MDaemon addresses can be
accessed using LDAP queries instead of the slower and unreliable
mechanisms in place at present.  Another advantage is that
MdaemonMail and kerb3mail passwords can be shared and replicated.
MdaemonMail and Kerb3mail will fall back to the LDaemon search
when these credentials are found in the LDAP server.
Because the LDaemon is used as a simple search provider, it can be
used in a variety of environments.  MDaemon customers can create and
manage their addresses in the network using LDaemon searches with
their mail clients, or LDAP clients can use LDaemon to create and
manage their user accounts.  Be sure to backup and reinstall your
LDaemon directory data regularly in case of trouble.
LDaemon is written entirely in C.  Additionally, LDaemon does NOT require
a Microsoft.Net Framework installation.
When supported, LDaemon will provide an LPS SDK.
LDaemon Usage:
The LDaemon engine has many features, its usage is explained below.
Add your users to the LDaemon server through the address book
  interface.
LDaemon will publish your users and your users will be available to email
clients that support LDAP lookups.  This includes MS Outlook 2000,
Exchange 2000 SP1, Postel mX, CyberDB, and DBManager.
LDaemon will import addresses from Exchange 2003 into its address book.
LDaemon will import your user's AD passwords into the LDaemon address book.
LDaemon will export your users out of the address book into Exchange 2003.
LDaemon will advertise your mail users for whom a Kerb3 user exists in the
Kerberos infrastructure.
