U of M COP Scholarship in Team-Based Learning
Team-based learning seeks to engage students and facilitate collaboration through a cycle of pre-class preparation, readiness assurance testing, and in-class activity focused on application. This process emphasizes both self-directed learning and team-based problem solving. Key components of TBL implementation include forming teams by equally distributing strengths amongst groups, assuring individual pre-learning and readiness, promoting teamwork while increasing competency in the activity, and providing immediate feedback and peer review. Researchers at the U of M COP have investigated student responses to TBL, as well as metrics for assessing the in-class application activity.
