RESEARCH, READING, & INNOVATION PROJECT "A Rover's Story" by Jasmine Warga 2023-24 Global Read Aloud & Middle-Grade Project Lit Pick for 2024 This project aims to integrate multiple subject areas by connecting STEM with Library Media. The focus will be on researching Mars, the red planet, its rovers, and Space Exploration. Simultaneously, students will engage in the reading of the book 'A Rover's Story' by Jasmine Warga. Throughout the reading, students will enhance their vocabulary and delve into various themes such as friendship, family, resilience, exploration, problem-solving, courage, working moms, family illness, hope, feelings vs. logic, grit, and home. Furthermore, students will have the unique opportunity to connect with peers worldwide who have also read the same book as part of the global read-aloud initiative. This fosters a real-world exchange and establishes a meaningful connection to literacy. As a culminating activity, students will be presented with an innovation challenge: to design and craft their own rover. *All activities are outlined below.
