JISC have outlined 4 main areas of improving student outcomes through assessment. Discover > Dream > Design > Deliver. 
Discover - This is usually the first stage where time needs to be taken to work out what is currently done, how it can be changed and where there are opportunities for digital assessment. In the period of time before the academic year, this is a good time to start the discover stage. Maybe reflecting on last years assessment and getting students to feedback on what they thought worked well and didn't go well. 
Dream - This isn't about thinking about pie in the sky ideas. This stage is looking at how your assessment looks in the wider picture. Considering long term strategy and what you are hoping to achieve is crucial at this stage. At this point you want to consider the types of learners you have and the ways they would engage and react with digital assessment for learning. 
Design - This stage is about how the digital assessment will look in practice. This is where you would be thinking whether courses are going to be entirely assessed digitally, or whether it will be specific lessons, modules or learning outcomes. In the design stage, the digital coach and learning tech teams are here to support this stage. 
Deliver - When using the digital assessment tools and techniques, it is important to have two way engagement, from students and also from staff. If staff don't engage in digital assessment, then the buy-in won't be there. if digital assessment is planned effectively through this model, staff will engage as it will reduce workload whilst improving learning outcomes.
