Since our study in making libraries fully accessible for everyone, I've spent a great amount of time reflecting and researching how to make my high school library a place where all students feel welcome and cherished. I'm determined to bridge the gap between the students in the AP classes and the students who will receive a certificate rather than diploma. I want our campus to be a model of inclusion and acceptance for every learner. I want students to flock to the library, because they feel at home. We spend more time with our students during the week than many parents and guardians. For at least eight hours a day, our students depend on us to teach, counsel, feed, comfort, diect, and admonish them. Shouldn't the library be a place where every student sees himself or herself reflected in the literature, pictures, and even blueprints? Whether that student is on the path to an Ivy League school or a transition to work program, our students deserve to be recognized and accepted for who they are. This collection of resources is the beginning of a collection to assist in our commitment to be a completely inclusive institution where student needs are the basis of everything we undertake to accomplish.
