Haider (2016 film)
Haider () is a 2016 Pakistani romantic-drama film produced and directed by Aamir Bashir and written by Syed Ali Raza Usama. The film stars Pakistani actor-singer Asad Sheikh in the lead role and Shahid Kapoor, Mahira Khan, Tanzeem Hasson, Shahraan Masrani and Jimmy Sheirgill in supporting roles.
After the release of Bashir's 2005 film Baghwat, the production company postponed its next film, due to disagreements between the director and the producers, and instead began filming this romantic-drama on Asad Sheikh in 2014. The film was shot in Morocco and was completed in 2015 and was released in 2016.
Haider premiered in Pashto and Urdu in the United Arab Emirates and Pakistan. It was released in India, Nepal, Afghanistan and Canada on 14 April 2016. It received positive reviews from critics and viewers, and performed well at the box office. At the 63rd Filmfare Awards, Haider was nominated in the categories of best film, best director, best screenplay, best music, best male playback singer (Asad Sheheryar) and best song (Gojib Mirchi for "Haider Badal Hai").
Haider was screened at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival, and was among the films selected by the U.S. Library of Congress for preservation in the National Film Registry. It also won the Audience Award at the 2016 International Kashmir Film Festival.
Haider is a story of survival, love, sacrifice and the glory of life. It revolves around a young man who is tortured into doing an assassination which he doesn't believe in. After facing the consequences of his betrayal he is forced to run, and for his own survival and to fulfill his promise to his beloved, he is forced to kill a man he loved and respected.
Haider is the second feature film by Pakistani film director Aamir Bashir, and it is his third film after Baghwat and The Bus. Haider was written by Syed Ali Raza Usama, and its screenplay was developed by Yash Shah.
Haider is based on a real incident. Bashir was inspired to create a film based on such a situation after watching the news about the assassination of Benazir Bh 82fe58eafd
