Fourteen laryngeal papillomatosis lesions occurred in a boy with juvenile cystic fibrosis during the course of 3 years. Papillomatosis is thought to be a delayed reaction to a viral infection. In this patient, there was an apparent seasonal variation in the occurrence of papillomas, with a peak in the summer months. A review of laryngeal papillomatosis in patients with juvenile cystic fibrosis indicates that this complication often occurs early in the course of the disease. This suggests a possible viral link.Conventional telescoping joints of the type used in window assemblies, door assemblies and the like typically comprise a first tube and a second tube slidably engaged therein wherein the second tube may be extended or retracted within the first tube to enable selective movement of one end of the first tube relative to the other. In this manner the end of the second tube which is adjacent the first tube may be selectively moved to selectively open a window, door or the like to enable air or fluid communication therebetween.
One such conventional telescoping joint is shown in U.S. Pat. No. 3,897,794. As shown therein, the end of the first tube remote from the second tube is essentially non-rotatable relative to the second tube. That is, if a force is exerted on the second tube to move the end thereof away from the first tube, the force is essentially transferred to the first tube to move the first tube away from the second tube. In this manner, conventional telescoping joints of the type disclosed in the '794 patent often provide a substantial amount of frictional resistance to the operation of a window or door.
Another conventional telescoping joint is shown in U.S. Pat. No. 5,067,712. As shown therein, the end of the first tube remote from the second tube is capable of angular movement relative to the second tube.
