We have investigated the basic structure of a PS-b-PEO block copolymer in the vicinity of its phase-separated morphology using the small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) technique and synchrotron X-ray diffraction (XRD). We observed that all blocks of PS-b-PEO are structured around spherical particles of about 4 nm in diameter, exhibiting a lamellar structure that results from the stacking of cylindrical diblock particles of about 6 nm in diameter. The in-plane periodicity of the domain structure is about 60 nm. This basic architecture is independent of the proportion of the two blocks and is reproduced in every domain structure. We have also demonstrated that the basic structural morphology is the same in the region where the block-copolymer domains can be considered to be distributed without the influence of hydrodynamic forces.Q:
