In 1982, Autodesk introduced AutoCAD as a desktop CAD package and on the first popular general-purpose microcomputer systems with internal graphics controllers, the IBM PC, Apple Macintosh and Digital Equipment Corporation's PDP-11. It was the first commercial, general-purpose, desktop CAD system available in software.
At the same time, Jim Matthews, Autodesk's vice president of systems, announced the company's intention to convert AutoCAD into a disk-based application.
A new software version, AutoCAD 1984, was released in December 1983. Disk-based AutoCAD allowed a network of computers to work together as a single system.

Category:AutoCADAs the first wave of the summer cold-and-flu season began to hit the Capital Region Thursday, people were being warned to not let the elderly and those with chronic health issues be exposed to the harsh elements.
“Winter is coming, and there’s no reason for people with asthma, bronchitis or other lung ailments to be outdoors on cold days,” said Dr. Robert Wright, senior medical officer for the Department of Health.
Among the health dangers:
The flu itself, which is expected to start hitting the Capital Region soon, although flu shots are already available. Symptoms can be similar to the regular cold-and-flu season: fever, body aches, cough and a runny or stuffy nose.
Those who are overweight, or have heart problems, diabetes or lung problems, are at greater risk of being affected by the flu, as well as being at risk of developing pneumonia, the doctor said.
Also, anyone who is pregnant should avoid exposure to the elements, especially during their first trimester, Dr. Wright said.
“It’s a bit of a no-brainer that everyone should be staying indoors,” he said.
The first wave of the season usually hits the region by the second week of April, Dr. Wright said.
A second wave hits the region about a week later, according to the CDC. And third waves can come through during the summer and fall.
“It’s always like a moving target,” said Dr. Wright.
The CDC recommends that healthy people get the flu shot this year. Because vaccines are not 100 percent effective, it is always a good idea to have a second shot, the doctor said.
The flu shot is particularly important for people who tend to get the flu every year, and for people who have conditions that make it difficult to fight off the virus.
