Implementation
AutoCAD is an application program that runs on all platforms that support Windows and DOS and as a Component that can run on Mac OS X. In Windows it runs under MS-DOS, Windows 3.1 and Windows NT, and in Mac OS X (as well as on earlier Apple operating systems) under Mac OS 9 and later.
Originally AutoCAD was written in C, using Microsoft's C compiler. Over time the compiler was upgraded to Microsoft Visual C++, and in the 1990s it was replaced by a Microsoft implementation of the Compaq's proprietary C++ compiler. In 2000, Autodesk released the source code for the company's Component library as the Community Technology Center (CTC) project in order to support the open-source community.
